Sorry I haven’t been posting much lately. I’ll try to remedy that.
Here’s a quick (kind crappy) picture I drew of Applejack.

I imagine some of you are familiar with the 25 Essential Expression Challenge template used above. Figured I should give it a go. It’s pretty rough, admittedly, as by the end I just wanted to get it done as quickly as possible.
Now, I don’t know if you lot are aware of this, but I don’t own any kind of touchscreen or tablet, or even a scanner. Never have. Everything I post on here is drawn entirely by mouse, and drawing with a mouse is a huge pain in the ass. It’s doable, but very slow and often frustrating, especially if you’re out of practice like me. This little exercise, for example, took around three hours.
That said, I really do feel like I’m getting the hang of these faces. Shouldn’t be too long now before I’m ready to move on.

Been practicing for the last couple of hours, and now I’m taking a break. Here are some of the faces I drew.

just-ask-rainbow-dash asked: is it that important that have the nose right? you could always practice it by drawing full body so you dont just focus on 1 thing.

It’s the entire muzzle that matters, really. The nose and mouth are very connected so it’s important to get right because it affects the whole lower half of the face.

Besides, it’s not just the muzzle I’m trying to improve but the eyes, ears, and general shape of the head as well.

Here’s an example of what I’ve been practicing lately. Getting facial features/expressions down pat is my main priority right now.

REMEMBER WHEN I SAID I MIGHT BE ON TO SOMETHING WITH THE NOSE THING?
TURNS OUT I WASN’T!
PS: If you’re wondering where the finished version of that lineart I posted earlier is (and rightfully so) the unfortunate truth is that I simply haven’t gotten around to it. It’s low on my priority list at the moment, as I’m more focused on getting the base sketches themselves up to par.
Fucking noses, man.

EDIT: In response to itscrips’ comment, I don’t intend to stick with just black and white linework. This is simply a preview of a work in progress.
ORIGINAL: My second try was a little more successful, as you can see.
Not sure if I’ll keep going on this one (colour, shading, background) or begin anew.
Thoughts?

tar-ath asked: I hope you don't ditch Dash. Your character choice was one of the reasons I started following you. But whatever you do, I'll still follow! Your style is hella nice.

Don’t worry, I’m not ditching Dash. Was just saying that for this particular experiment I might use someone else.

I THINK I MAY BE ON TO SOMETHING, GENTLEMEN.

First attempt was a miss. I drew the lines too thick and the base sketch wasn’t very good to begin with anyway.
Gonna start over again in a little while, maybe with a different character. I am, after all, going to have to colour this in at some point and I’m not feeling patient enough today to do Rainbow’s hair.
